Munster's Conor Murray talks Johann Van Graan and taking on Dan Carter

Munster picked up their first win of this season's European Rugby Champions Cup by beating Racing 92 at Thomond Park, having opened up their campaign with a draw at Castres.

Conor Murray got the crucial first try of the game on the hour and also significant as incoming Munster head coach Johann van Graan was observing proceedings at close quarter as he prepares to take charge of the province.

Speaking to Oisin Langan, Ireland scrum half Murray talked about the role Van Graan was playing this weekend.

"He was here all week and he was sitting in on meetings and you could got to chat to him. He was just observing mainly and just getting a feel for the place," he said.

"But to come and view a game on a Saturday night in Europe is a nice way to start, especially with us getting a win and he was in the dressing room afterwards and he was heading home, you could sense it off him that he was really looking forward to getting stuck in and getting working with us."

Racing 92 of course had All Blacks legend Dan Carter in their ranks, with Ian Keatley tasked with rivaling his out half contributions from the Munster side.

"He marshaled them well," said Murray of Carter.

"I just think we defended really well and soaked up the pressure because he was always going to continue playing. He always wanted to play in Thomond Park anyway and credit to the lads, especially Keats going up against him, he obviously would have felt pressure and would have wanted to put in a good performance against one of the greats and I think he did."

We'll be analysing the Munster match and more with ex-Munster second row Donncha O'Callaghan and ex-Ireland head coach Eddie O'Sullivan on Monday Night Rugby. Tune in from 8pm.
