Nate Diaz earned himself a place in the UFC record books with his fight against Conor McGregor

Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor produced one of the fights of the year in Las Vegas last Saturday, as both men lasted the distance in a grueling contest.

Afterwards, they were full of praise for one another, with McGregor calling his opponent an absolute warrior, given how much punishment the Irishman dished out without being able to stop him.

Diaz got back up and kept coming at the Dubliner, showing the resilience that he has and the toughness that has made him such a firm favourite with fans.

Since McGregor didn't want to get involved on the ground with him, given just how capable the Stockton native is in that department, he ended up trading a lot of blows with him, which lead to Diaz claiming a place in the UFC history books.

Diaz threw 435 strikes on the night, 252 were successful and 166 were deemed to be significant (two more than McGregor, according to FightMetric), which pushed him above Frankie Edgar on the all-time chart for most strikes landed.

While there is still a bit of resistance to a third fight in the rivalry happening so soon after their last bout, there certainly is scope for these two to meet in the octagon again in the near future after the epic showdown they produced at the T-Mobile Arena last weekend. Besides, after what they reportedly got paid, both fighters are unlikely to complain about getting the chance to make that type of money again.
