Neil Seery's retirement fight at UFC Belfast is called off

Neil Seery's retirement fight against Ian McCall has been cancelled, just over 24 hours away from the scheduled fight.

The two men were duo to compete at UFC Belfast on Saturday evening in a flyweight bout. Seery announced last month that his fight with McCall was to be his last as a professional.

Speaking to Peter Carroll, Seery admitted he wanted to leave the UFC on his own terms, and a fight on home soil was the perfect send-off for him.

“I’m going to get to walk away while I’m still in the UFC and not a lot of people get to do that. A lot of people get cut from the UFC and then try to put a run back together to get back in."

“I’ve made this decision. My final fight will be against a man whose style I have admired for a long time. The fact that I get to have my final fight in Belfast is just a really nice bonus.”

'2 Tap' weighed in on Friday morning ahead of the fight. McCall did not take to the scales, after suffering an illness overnight.

The news is devastating to both fighters. Seery had planned the Belfast fight as a swansong, while McCall's last two scheduled opponents both pulled out of fights at short notice in recent months.

While it looks like there is no hope of a replacement, Brad Pickett has announced he is willing to fight the Dubliner in a catchweight bout. London-born Pickett is in Belfast, working with the UFC this week in a promotional capacity. He is scheduled to fight Urijah Faber next month in what is the Californian's retirement fight.
