New England Patriots move into the AFC top seeding after Ravens win

Despite almost giving up a 13-point half-time lead, the New England Patriots held on for victory on Monday night, defeating the Baltimore Ravens, 30-23 in Foxborough.

The Patriots fourth successive win has seen the leapfrog the AFC West duo of Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders into the top seeds position. A top seeding will guarantee the Patriots (should they stay there), home field advantage throughout the playoffs, up to SuperBowl LI.

Never trailing in the match, the Patriot ran to a 16-0 lead before half-time. Touchdowns from LeGarrette Blount and Malcolm Mitchell in the each of the first two quarters respectively, added to a Ravens safety accounted for the Patriots first half. They were unable to shutout their AFC rivals, who scored a field goal in the last 15 seconds of the half.

Despite an early touchdown for the Patriots from Martellus Bennett, it was the Ravens who dominated the third quarter. Two touchdowns in the space of 90 seconds from Darren Waller and Kenneth Dixon reduced the gap to six. A Justin Tucker field goal midway through the fourth quarter cut the lead to three.

Chris Hogan guaranteed the win for the Patriots. The 28-year-old scored the longest touchdown of his career, running 79-yards from a Tom Brady pass.

Next week, the Patriots (11-2) meet the SuperBowl champion Denver Broncos away from home, while the Ravens (6-7) are at home to the Philadelphia Eagles.
