Dustin Johnson enters the Ryder Cup as one of the high profile form players and the newly crowned PGA of America Player of the Year is ready to play a starring role in this year's event.
Speaking ahead of the opening round of action this afternoon in Hazeltine, Johnson was asked whether or not he considered himself a leader in the group.
"I'd like to think so," he replied. "But we've got -- there's so many guys on our team, with Phil [Mickelson] and Tiger [Woods] and Strick [Steve Stricker] and [Jim] Furyk and Davis [Love III]; we've got a lot of leadership there.
"So for me, you know, I just kind of try to do whatever, whatever I can. But with those guys, I don't really have to do too much."
The US look to clinch a first title since 2008 and Johnson says that experiences like Europes Miracle in Medinah four years ago hasn't played on their mind.
"No, in golf, it's one sport, and maybe a defensive back in the NFL, you need to have short memory. So we haven't talked about Medinah at all.
"You know, we're looking forward to this week and these matches and this first session we have coming up tomorrow morning. No talk about Medinah."
Europe's team contains six rookies this year, five of which qualified automatically for the event after finishing in the top nine of the points list. While many consider the US's experience an advantage, what may count against them is the fact that man y who have featured at the Ryder Cup have gone on to lose the event.
"For me, I can't speak for everyone else, but for me, no, because I mean, the only thing that matters is this Ryder Cup, and going out and trying to play your best golf and get as many points as you can for your team.
"And so for me, it doesn't -- I don't think about what's happened in the past. I've just got to go out tomorrow morning, or whenever I go out, and play, and you know, try to play my best and get a point for my team."
