Despite his position as one of the most polarising figures in tennis, Nick Kygrios will not be competing in Rio de Janeiro at the Olympic Games.
The 21-year-old is Australia's top-ranked male player and was set to feature in the tournament alongside compatriot Bernard Tomic. Both men have pulled out of the event after disagreements with the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC).
Kitty Chiller, the Chef de Mission for the Australian team had previously called spoken negatively about Kygrios' on-court behaviour. "I think some of Nick’s comments in social media have shown that maybe he doesn’t understand what it means to be an Australian Olympian".

In a statement released on his website, Kygrios said he was "extremely disappointed" to make the decision.
"AOC’s unfair and unjust treatment of me over the last four weeks, as well as the organization’s crystal clear position on whether they want me to be a part of the Australian Olympic team, has solidified my final decision."
Kyrgios claimed that Tennis Australia was fully supportive of his selection to travel to Brazil, but he could not do so with a lack of support from the Olympic committee.
Despite pulling out of being considered for selection, Kyrgios already has his sights set on playing in Tokyo in four-years time. "I hope that in four years I will find myself in the position to be a part of the Australian Olympic team."
The Australian was knocked out of the French Open in the Third Round, by eventual quarter-finalist Richard Gasquet.
