Nico Rosberg joined an exclusive club on Sunday afternoon, after his second-place finish in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix won him his maiden World Drivers Championship.
Rosberg joined Damon Hill as only the second driver, to follow in their father's footsteps in winning the Championship. Keke Rosberg won his sole Drivers Championship in 1982, while Graham Hill was a two-time champion in both 1962 and 1968.
Formula 1 has regularly seen drivers follow in their father's footsteps in joining the grid. Along with Nico Rosberg, Max Verstappen entered Formula 1 in 2015, 12 years after his father retired.
Here are three other father-son combinations who nearly matched the achievements of the Hills and Rosbergs.
Gilles and Jacques Villeneuve
Canada's most famous racing family, saw Gilles die in a car crash at the 1982 Belgian Grand Prix, aged only 32. Only three years previously he finished second in the Drivers Championship, winning three races that season.
In 1997, his son Jacques, in only his second season in Formula 1, won the Championship that eluded his father. That year, Villeneuve, would win seven races. He would not win another in his following nine seasons in the sport.
Jack and David Brabham
Jack Brabham won three World Titles during his illustrious 16-season F1 career. The Australian was victorious in 1959, 1960 and 1966. His final win was his most famous, as he won in a car that bared his own name.
While Jack was one of the legends of the sport, his son David did not fare as well. The younger Brabham's F1 career did not go as well. A 15th-placed finish at the 1990 French Grand Prix being the highlight.
Nelson and Nelson Jr. Piquet
Nelson Piquet remains one of Brazil's greatest ever drivers. The 64-year-old won three titles in his 14-year career, including two at Jack Brabham's team in 1981 and 1983.
The younger Nelson was involved with Williams for three seasons, racing in 2008 and 2009. His best result came in second place at the 2008 German Grand Prix.
