Nigel Pearson appointed Derby County boss

Nigel Pearson has been appointed as the new Derby County manager.

The former Leicester City, Southampton and Hull City boss has agreed a three-year contract with the club and will be joined by Chris Powell as his assistant.

"I am honoured to be named as the manager of Derby County, which is one of the biggest clubs in the country, a club in excellent shape and one with strong ambitions," he told the club's official website, "It is firmly focused on achieving Premier League football.

"I will give absolutely everything I have to this role and do all I can to bring exciting, entertaining and winning football which our supporters can be proud of."

"We are delighted to welcome Nigel to the club. He is a proven winner, a highly experienced manager who has track record of success in the Championship and has also coached successfully in the Premier League" said chairman Mel Morris.

Pearson was sacked by Leicester City at the end of June last year aftter a collapse in his relationship with the club’s Thai owners. The dismissal of his son James understood to be a pivotal factor.

James, along with two other players in the team at the time, were embroiled in a sex tape scandal in which they made racist comments during the club's post-season tour of Thailand.
