Nigeria's Olympic kit arrived in Rio after most athletes had already finished

It has not been an ideal Olympic Games for Nigeria from a logistical point of view.

The Nigerian footballers only arrived in Brazil, hours before their opening match, which they somehow won, defeating Japan 5-4.

The footballers play on Saturday in the bronze medal match against Honduras, and it looks like even their preparations were usurped by the countries' track-and-field team.

According to Vanguard, Nigeria's kit for the track-and-field athletes only arrived on Wednesday night. It was revealed by a Nigerian athletic official that the kits could not serve their purpose as "most of the athletes have left after concluding their events".

The unnamed official blamed the Nigerian Sports Ministry for the shambolic preparations. "I have never experienced this in my years in sports. Money meant for the Games was held tightly by ministry officials and they were just releasing money piecemeal. We had to buy kits on our own while some athletes competed in their personal kits."

One athlete, requesting anonymity told the BBC, that some Nigerian athletes had to wear kits that were previously worn in this year's Indoor World Championships.

The African country are still looking for their first Olympic medal this month.
