Northern Ireland fan who featured in Euro 2016 ad ends up ticketless

Euro 2016 tickets remain like gold dust all over Europe as fans from the 24 participating countries are trying to get their hands on the precious tickets.

The tickets are a rare commodity in Northern Ireland, as fans are clamouring to see Michael O'Neill's side play in the European Championships for the first time.

One fan that hoped to see his team in France was Stuart Killen. The 33-year-old was featured in UEFA ads encouraging fans to apply for tickets for the summer's tournament.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, Killen was one of the many fans left disappointed by the ticket draw last week. He told the newspaper that the Irish Football Association have been slow to respond to fans who have missed out on tickets for the games against Poland, Ukraine and Germany. "The only reply was about the extra tickets for the Poland game and more or less blaming Uefa for not following their requests to use the points basis. I have received no tickets yet."

Killen didn't even know his face was used in the UEFA and IFA ads until receiving an e-mail about applying for tickets. "Neither the IFA or UEFA had permission to use my photo so I had no idea about appearing on their adverts until I got my email from the IFA with my picture."

The process to distribute tickets to Republic of Ireland fans began last Friday, with more tickets expected to be allocated through until the end of the month.
