Northern Ireland's Brendan Dolan knocked out of the PDC World Darts Championship

Fermanagh native Brendan Dolan's tilt at the PDC World Darts Championship came to an end today as he was beaten at Alexandra Palace.

Dolan was beaten 4-0 by Dutchman Jelle Klassen to exit in the second round of the championship.

"In legs it was closer," he said after the match. "When you're playing set-play it's all about hitting the right shot at the crucial time. Jelle's scoring power was more consistent than mine. He deserved the win, definitely so."

Dolan has never been past the second round in nine tournament appearances.

"I'm not going to see this as a negative because of where I've come from.  Since October and November time, I've been getting better. Now I'm just looking forward to the season to be starting again.

"I thought maybe I had a chance, I did expect to come here and win [this match]. Jelle just played brilliant out there. But I know I'm improving and I know I'm getting better."

He added: "This time I can see the positives. I recognise the improvement in my game and I know there's a lot more to come."

Klassen will now face Dave Chisnall in the third round.
