Nottingham Forest want Martin O'Neill to manage the club next season

Nottingham Forest's owner wants Martin O'Neill to take charge of The Championship side after Euro 2016.

O'Neill's contract with the FAI runs out this summer, and despite ongoing contract talks he has yet to sign a new deal. According to the Nottingham Post, owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi will hand over the full running of the team to the Derry native.

A spell with Forest saw O'Neill win two European Cups along with a league title. He was one of stars of the team in their most successful era.

Paul Williams is taking charge of the team until the end of the season, after Dougie Freedman was sacked last month after a poor run of results. Williams is unlikely to lead the team next season and Al-Hasawi wants O'Neill to take charge next season.

The 64-year-old has said on numerous occasions that contract talks with the FAI are running smoothly. Despite the relaxed negotiations, no deal has yet been made public.

Nottingham Forest have lost five of their last six league games. The lie 20th in The Championship, nine points clear of the relegation zone with only five games left to play this season.
