Novak Djokovic to play Andy Murray in French Open final as he chases career Grand Slam

Novak Djokovic emerged unscathed from his semi-final with Dominic Thiem at the French Open at Roland Garros to make his fourth final in five years.

He beat the 22-year-old Austrian 6-2 6-1 6-4 as Andy Murray remained busy defeating reigning champion Stan Wawrinka on court two. Djokovic was the beaten finalist last year and the year before and he also suffered defeat against Rafael Nadal in 2012.

Djokovic was competing in his sixth consecutive semi-final but has yet to win the elusive major and needs it to complete the career grand slam.

Murray beat Wawrinka 6-4 6-2 4-6 6-2 to become the first British man to reach the French Open final since 1937 and was largely in control despite dropping the third set. Murray and Djokovic's last match came at the Rome Masters when Murray defeated the highest ranked player in the world of tennis. A mouth-watering final at Roland Garros awaits despite the poor weather that has been on display for much of the tournament.

Earlier in the day, Serena Williams booked her place in the final by beating Kiki Bertens 7-6(7) 6-4. She will play Garbine Muguruza, the number four seed, who had a comprehensive 6-2 6-4 victory over Samantha Stosur.

Williams has won the last three of her four matches against Muguruza but the last loss came at the French Open in the second round of 2014.
