O'Mahony signs new Munster deal

Peter O’Mahony has committed his future to Munster, signing a three-year contract with the IRFU which will keep him at the province until 2018 at least.

O’Mahony said he is “delighted to have signed a new three year contract with Munster and the IRFU."

The 25-year-old first appeared for Munster in 2010 and has since racked up 68 appearances, as well as taking over as captain.

“Munster is my home province; the team I've grown up supporting and am honoured to both represent and captain,” he said.

O’Mahony has won 27 caps for Ireland and become an integral part of the side in recent years.

"Peter's performances for Ireland over the past few seasons have been exceptional, said IRFU Performance Director David Nucifora.

“The esteem in which he is held by Irish rugby is reflected in the fact that at the age of just 25 he has already captained his country and province ... we are delighted that he has committed to Irish Rugby," he added.

O’Mahony has come through the ranks at Munster and Garrett Fitzgerald, Munster CEO, paid tribute to the home-grown star.

"Peter, a product of our academy system, is hugely competitive and highly ambitious. He leads by example on and off the field and is a perfect role model for all aspiring young players,” Fitzgerald said.
