Irish sailor and Olympic silver medallist Annalise Murphy has been named as Grand Marshall for this year's St Patrick's Day parade in Dublin.

The 27 year old from Rathfarnham will lead this year's parade through the streets of the capital on March 17th.

The Festival committee say Annalise was chosen in recognition of her outstanding achievement at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, her contribution to Irish sport and her courage and determination to succeed on the world stage in her sport.

Previous Grand Marshalls include activist Joanne O'Brien, Nicky Byrne and Katie Taylor.

Ireland You Are…is the theme for the 2017 Festival Parade, and "looks to celebrate who we are as a culturally diverse, complex and brave society."
