The Olympic opening ceremony gets underway on Friday night in Brazil as all the nations in attendance and the flag bearers prepare to have their moment in the spotlight.
The Games in Rio have already had plenty of problems to contend with in the build up, but as the huge event finally approaches, there is an air of excitement growing.
London's Olympics also faced a number of problems in the run up, as did Beijing, as did Atlanta, and the list goes on. However, when the showpiece opening ceremony kicks off and all the athletes of the nations involved walk through the stadium, the sporting achievement of making it to the pinnacle of a particular discipline is finally recognised in the achievement of a lifelong dream for thousands of athletes.
Greece get the honour of going first in this year's ceremony, given that they are the ones who came up with the whole idea of the Olympics, and the host nation will be the last to complete the walk through. However, the rest of the list follows alphabetical order for the names of the countries in Portuguese.
As a result, the United States (Estados Unidos) are in 65th, right after Spain (Espanha). Ireland have fallen at number 100, almost right in the middle of the procession, so those who want to see Paddy Barnes walk though with the tricolour may have to put on a pot of coffee at some stage in the proceedings.
The opening ceremony begins at midnight Irish time as Friday (August 5th) ticks over into Saturday in the iconic Maracanã stadium, so if you're staying up to watch the event, here's who you can expect to see making their way through the stadium and when, as the Games finally get underway.
