Owen Coyle and Blackburn part ways

Owen Coyle has parted ways with Championship strugglers Blackburn Rovers.

The club say the former Scotland born Ireland international has left by mutual agreement after nine months in charge.

The 50 year old's last game in charge was Sunday's 2-1 FA Cup loss to Manchester United.

Blackburn are second bottom in the table, a full three points from safety, almost five years on from the 1994-95 Premier League winners' last appearance in the English top flight.

They have won just seven of their 21 league games this season. On Sunday, they exited the FA Cup at the fifth round stage after a narrow 2-1 loss to Manchester United.

Explaining their decision to part with Coyle, Blackburn said: "The decision has been taken in order to give the club the best possible chance of climbing to a position of safety in the Championship in the remaining 15 games, which starts with the big trip to Burton Albion on Friday night.

"The club would like to place on record its thanks to Owen and his staff for all their efforts this season and we wish them well for the future.

"The search for a new manager will begin with immediate effect."

Coyle has previously managed at Bolton Wanderers, Burnley, Wigan Athletic and in the USA with Houston Dynamo.
