Former Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic manager Owen Coyle has been named as the new Blackburn Rovers manager on a two year deal.
The Scottish-born Coyle spent the last two years in the United States where he was the head coach of the Houston Dynamo but left last month by mutual consent.
Blackburn had been in search of a manager since Paul Lambert decided to step down from his role at the club at the start of May.
"I am absolutely thrilled and honoured to be Blackburn Rovers manager and I look forward to working with terrific people at the club," he said.
"The ultimate aim is to give a team that is representative of the fans, a team that is entertaining and hard working, and a team that can win."
Coyle spent most of his playing career in Scotland playing for the likes of Dundee United, Dunfermline and Motherwell.
The 49-year-old also represented Ireland at international level on one occasion replacing Tommy Coyne in the second half of a 1-0 victory over the Netherlands in 1994.
This news also means that Warren Joyce, Manchester United's Under-21 manager, might be staying at Old Trafford despite rumours to the contrary linking him with the Blackburn job.
