"Pablo Escobar's sister told me he died in his football boots"

As a mark of his notoriety, former drug lord Pablo Escobar has had numerous films and documentaries made about him since he was killed in 1993.

The most recent is Netflix series Narcos which is proving to be extremely popular. Another one definitely worth a watch is the excellent ESPN 30 for 30 documentary The Two Escobars which also tells the story of the events leading up to the 1994 murder of Andres Escobar after the Colombia defender scored an own goal in that year's World Cup.

Pablo Escobar's place in that documentary is down to his love of football, a domain he had plenty of involvement in as an investor and as the funder of social projects like the construction of football pitches in his native Medellin, Colombia.

Two Escobars director Michael Zimbalist joined us on Team 33 to talk about the former cocaine kingpins motives and interest in the beautiful game as well as the effect drug money had on Colombian football in the '70s, '80s and early 1990s.
