Papiss Cisse the latest player to leave Europe for the Chinese Super League

The 31-year-old leaves Newcastle United for an undisclosed fee

Papiss Cisse has left Newcastle United to join Shandong Luneng in the Chinese Super League.

The 31-year-old will leave Tyneside following a relatively poor four-year spell with Newcastle despite glimpses of brilliance throughout.

Cisse joined the Magpies in January 2012 from SC Freiburg and scored 44 goals in 131 appearances for the Premier League club.

Newcastle have signed Dwight Gayle from Crystal Palace and Rafa Benitez will likely rely on the speedy former Peterborough striker to fire him back to the Premier League.

While he wasn't as sharp a shooter as many Newcastle fans might have hoped, his spirit will live on forever after he scored this scorcher against Chelsea in his debut season in the league.
