Donald Trump's election as the 45th President of the United States, may harm the Olympic Games returning to the country in the near future.
The 1996 Games in Atlanta is the last time an American city has hosted the Summer Games, with New York (2012) and Chicago (2016) having both bid unsuccessfully to take up hosting duties.
Having not bid for the 2020 Games, after consecutive unsuccessful bids, the United State Olympic Committee picked Los Angeles to bid for the 2024 event. Along with Paris, the Californian city was seen as a front-runner to succeed Tokyo at Games hosts.
Earlier this year, the Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said that either a Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton presidency would not damage the LA 2024 bid, when voting takes place next September in Peru.

"When the dust settles on these presidential campaigns and we have a new president he or she will squarely be behind Los Angeles' bid to bring these Games back to the U.S."
Despite Garcetti's comments, there has been strong concerns in recent weeks that a Trump election could hamper the two-time hosts, hoping to bring the Games back for the first time since 1984.
American Olympic sources told USA Today, that a Trump win, would make it difficult for voters from Latin or Islamic countries to vote for the city. Female IOC members may also struggle to vote for Los Angeles.
One source even added it would be “the ultimate disaster movie" for the LA bid team.
Los Angeles is currently the second favourite, behind Paris, but ahead of Budapest. The Parisian bid team may see Trump's election as a blessing in disguise, having lost out in bids to host the 1992, 2008, and 2012 Games, to Barcelona, Beijing and London respectively.
