Peter Lawrie set to retire from the European Tour

Ireland's Peter Lawrie will retire from the European Tour at the end of the season.

The 42-year-old has played more than 400 European Tour events and amassed more than €6 million in prize money.

The Dubliner joined the tour in 2003 when he was named rookie of the year and has won just once during his time on tour: the 2008 Spanish Open.

"I have enjoyed my years on the tour and have made many great friends and contacts," he said in a statement today.

He will take on the role of Director of Golf at the Luttrellstown Castle resort.

"I hope to build on my relationships to promote Luttrellstown Castle Resort as the top class venue it is in Ireland.  I am very excited by this new role.  I know the course well and look forward very much to working with the team."

2014 Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley added: "Peter brings great energy, enthusiasm and professionalism with him and is always a great ambassador for golf in Ireland and internationally."
