Peter O'Mahony expects to return to Munster action in the next month

The 2015/16 season was a write-off for Peter O'Mahony in Munster colours.

The Cork native tore his cruciate ligament in Ireland's World Cup win over France in Cardiff. The October match was the last time, O'Mahony has played competitively.

His last game for Munster came on May 23rd last year against the Ospreys in the Pro 12 play-offs. Since then, the landscape of Munster has vastly changed with Rassie Erasmus joining the province as Director of Rugby.

Munster begin their Pro12 campaign away to Scarlets on September 3rd. O'Mahony wont be playing, but he hopes to be back in the the team very soon. Speaking to the Irish Times, he revealed that he hopes to be back before the end of September.

"Another couple of weeks,"O’Mahony admitted earlier this week at the Guinness Pro12 launch in Dublin. "I am hoping to play somewhere around [games] two, three, four."

If his prediction was at the latter end, the home game against Edinburgh on September 24th, could see the Munster captain return to the Thomond Park field.

Despite the injury in Cardiff, O'Mahony hopes the rehabilitation work he has completed over the last 11 months with prove to be extremely beneficial in future years.

"I would hope with the bulk of training I have done now I might get a couple of months or a year perhaps back at the end of my career."

After last season's disappointing campaign, O'Mahony will be desperate to make up for lost time with the province.
