Portland Timbers win the MLS Cup despite howlers from both goalkeepers in the Final

In only their fifth season of existence, Portland Timbers are the MLS Champions.

The Oregon side defeated Columbus Crew 2-1 in the MLS Cup Final last night in a game that will be best remembered for two massive mistakes from both goalkeepers.

Portland took the lead inside 30 seconds as Diego Valeri scored the fastest goal in MLS Cup history. The Argentine midfielder charged down goalkeeper Steve Clark's clearance which rebounded into the net.

Portland doubled their lead after seven minutes with a goal from Rodney Wallace. At the other end, Columbus scored midway through the first half after another goalkeeping mistake.

Adam Kwarasey dropped a cross which was picked up by Columbus striker Kei Kamara, which was eventually scored. Kamara ended the season as the top scorer in the league.

After the chaotic opening period, it was Portland who won the game 2-1. It is the sides first major trophy in their existence.
