RTÉ look set to share television coverage of Euro 2016 with TV3 according to newspaper reports this morning.

Both the Irish Independent and Irish Sun claim that TV3 is to broadcast 22 games from the tournament in France. RTÉ will broadcast Ireland's three Group E games against Sweden, Belgium and Italy.

It is not the first time the two broadcasters have shared coverage of the European Championships, as back in 2004, TV3 had live coverage from a small amount of games during the group stages.

The deal is similar to what happens in Britain, when BBC and ITV share coverage of World Cups and European Championships. The two broadcasters alternate each tournament.

RTÉ will have the first choice of games not including Ireland, but it is another success story on the sports front for TV3. The station already shares Champions League coverage with RTÉ, and will have exclusive coverage of the Six Nations from 2018.

TV3 have recently increased their sporting coverage. The station saw record viewing numbers last year as they broadcast from the Rugby World Cup.
