MASTERS PREVIEW: What McIlroy must do to conquer Augusta

Rory McIlroy has an opportunity to complete his career Grand Slam by winning at the Masters this weekend, and former European Order of Merit winner Ronan Rafferty believes that the World No 1 is going about his preparations in the right way.

He was on Off The Ball tonight to preview the action at Augusta and feels that McIlroy is "superior" and "stronger" than he was.

"I think he's gone away and done intelligent practice. He recognises that Augusta is that type of golf course which can lure you into a false sense of security," said Rafferty.

"What you've got to do round there is keep your mistakes off the scorecard. He's going to be able to reach each Par 5 fairly easily in two and he's bringing the par of the course down and he's got to keep it on the right spot on the green."

Rafferty also "can't see" Tiger Woods upsetting the odds and challenging for the green jacket.

"A great story - but I can't see it happening. You'd like to think he still has that ability. But he is somewhat older now and hasn't really contended for a Major for a while," he said.

Rafferty thinks Padraig Harrington must make a good start and build momentum to stand a chance of springing a surprise.

"He's one of these players that can click and we saw that at the Honda a few weeks ago."
