Rassie Erasmus labels Munster exit reports as "just speculation"

Munster Director of Rugby Rassie Erasmus has responded to reports linking him with a move back to his native South Africa as "just speculation".

Erasmus has previously been linked with positions away from the Irish province and with current Springboks head coach, Allister Coetzee, under pressure, many have tipped Erasmus to succeed the 53-year-old.

Under Erasmus and following the passing of Anthony Foley last year, Munster embarked on a run of 14 victories in 15 games and have looked one of the best sides both domestically and in Europe. They are currently two points off Guinness PRO12 leaders Leinster.

"I think the last time we spoke when the European Cup started, that question was asked," he said at today's press conference. "It's such an important week, I wouldn't have something like that distracting the team from the game on Saturday.

"As I've said to a few of the guys, I've worked in South Africa for 16 years. I've got a of friends there and I speak to them weekly on a formal and informal basis.

"It's really speculation at this stage. I've got an IRFU contract which is three years. As I say, it's just speculation."

Munster face into this weekend's clash with French side Toulouse in the quarter-final of this year's Champions Cup. Munster topped their pool late last year, picking up five wins from six games and finishing five points clear of nearest rivals Glasgow Warriors.

They also welcome back a number of Irish internationals off the back of the Six Nations including Peter O'Mahony who started during Munster's win away to Zebre last weekend.
