Real Madrid kicked out of the Copa del Rey for playing ineligible player

Real Madrid have been thrown out of the Copa del Rey for fielding an illegible player against Cadiz on Wednesday night.

Denis Cheryshev had accumulated three yellow cards, enough to incur a band, when he was booked in last season’s semi-final while playing for Villarreal on loan from Real Madrid.

Cheryshev started the game against Cadiz on Wednesday night against and scored before being whipped off 45 seconds into the second half as news of the ineligibility filtered through to Madrid management.

Cadiz fans were heard singing, “Benitez, check Twitter!” as the whole of the social media world had figured out that Cheryshev was indeed ineligible before Benitez and his team came to the stark realisation.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez denounced blame and said his side would fight the possible ban.

Following a 4-0 beating at the hands of Barcelona along with the David de Gea summer fiasco, the Iker Casillas stand-off and now this, Florentino Perez is coming under increasing scrutiny. All of that would be forgotten if his side were doing it on the field but sitting in third place and six points behind their arch enemies is certainly not ideal.
