Real Madrid will hold an official press conference on Monday night

Pressure is mounting on the president int he wake of a 4-0 defeat to Barcelona this weekend in El Clásico on home ground, and he has called a press conference for Monday evening.

The frustrations in the Bernabeu on Saturday night were palpable and visible, when fans began to chant for the resignation of president Florentino Perez as they watched their side hammered by Luis Enrique's Barcelona side.

The president saw fans issue the famous pañolada (waving of the white hankies) in protest at what they were witnessing, and while Rafale Benitez has not been popular with them, the president was most certainly the target of the chants, as Graham Hunter explained on Off the Ball on Sunday

On Monday, the president announced that there would be an official press conference taking place after a board meeting with the club, amid growing speculation that Rafael Benítez could be shown the exit door after only a few short months in charge.

However, there is the possibility that the Spaniard will be given the full backing of the president in the wake of the defeat, a move that could make things even worse for Benítez given the level of dissatisfaction with Perez among fans at the moment.

Things could also be getting worse for Perez before they get any better week, as he's due in court on Wednesday the 25th to answer a formal complaint from a group of fans who are not happy that he changed the statutes of the club back in 2012.
