Rio Paralympics: Orla Comeford makes the 100m final while Nicole Turner finishes seventh in 50m freestyle final

Swimmer Nicole Turner finished seventh in the final of the S6 50m freestyle, with a time of 36.31.

The 14 year old, and youngest member of Team Ireland, qualified for the final today and will be proud of her games, with her just missing out on a medal in the S6 50m Butterfly last night, before taking to the pool tonight for the freestyle event.

In table tennis Rena McCarron Rooney has exited the games despite a gutsy performance against world number one Seo Su-Yeon in table tennis.

The Irish player said she had been hoping to avoid the Korean until later in the competition and she was up against it as soon as the draw was made.

Despite a brave performance, McCarron Rooney lost in straight sets, 11-5, 11-8, 11-3.

"She's really strong, she's the one player I didn't want to meet," she said speaking to Newstalk reporter Oisin Langan.

"I'd be confident against every other lady (in the competition), Korea and China I just don't have a game plan for."

"We don't see them, we don't get to play them so I needed luck. I was hoping to avoid those two until the semis at least."

"I played quite well, I couldn't have done any more really."

Elsehwere, Greta Streimikyte finished 4th in the 1500 metres race.

The 21 years old originally from Lithuania but who now lives and studies in Dublin was moved up a place from 5th as another runner was disqualified.

After the the race she spoke about her she had to adapt her tactics.

Also on the track, Orla Comeford says she wants an improvement in her performance in tomorrows 100 metres final.

The Dublin sprinter, who turns 19 next week, qualified as a fastest loser from today's heats and afterwards expressed her satisfaction with her performance but admitted it will need to be better in the final.
