Renato Sanches named as Euro 2016's best young player

Portugal midfielder Renato Sanches was named the Euro 2016 Young Player of the Tournament after Sunday night's Final in Paris.

The 18-year-old only started his first game of the tournament, in the quarter-final win over Poland, but two man-of-the-match performances in the knockout stages helped the team claim glory.

He finished ahead of France's Kingsley Coman in the standings. Both players will join forces next season at Bayern Munich. Sanches signed for the team before the tournament started for a €35million fee.

Sanches' award was chosen by UEFA's technical observers, which included Sir Alex Ferguson. The midfielder is the first winner of the award.

The win caps an astonishing season for Sanches. He only started his first competitive game for Benfica last November, before sealing his move to Bayern Munich.

In his first full season in the first team at club and international level, Sanches has won a Portuguese League and Cup double along with the European Championships. Impressive stuff.
