Reports claim Jose Mourinho's move to Manchester United is on the verge of completion

Jose Mourinho has been repeatedly linked with the Manchester United job since leaving Chelsea, and reports on Wednesday morning suggest that the Portuguese looks set to be come their new manager.

Despite Louis van Gaal denying the reports, the rumours that Jose Mourinho is set to take over at Manchester United have been very persistent. With rumours that he made contact with the club to assuage any doubts about him being a good fit, as well as reports that Van Gaal has already offered to resign this season, the managerial situation at the club has come under increasing speculation.

According to The Mirror, Mourinho has told friends that he is sure he will be the new man in charge at Old Trafford and that it is almost a done deal, with the Daily Mail adding that the terms of the deal are almost agreed.

The Telegraph, however, state that the former Chelsea man will only get the job if Ed Woodward and the board at the Manchester club agree to sack Van Gaal.

Crosstown rivals Manchester City have secured a big coup after naming Pep Guardiola as their new manager, and that may push United into action as they look to improve on a season that has seen fans frustrated with the lack of goals and attacking play by the team.

Speaking to GQ, Jose Mourinho revealed that "I will be back soon", but added that "at this moment I don’t have a job, and I don’t know where football will take me, because in football you never know. But for sure — for sure, for sure — as a family, our home will still be England".

After success with Tottenham this season, Mauricio Pochettino's name has also been linked with the job, and it appears that Manchester United are likely to part ways with the Dutchman come the end of the season unless there is a dramatic change in the works.
