Richard Sherman is not a fan of Thursday Night Football

Seattle Seahawks play the Los Angeles Rams in the penultimate Thursday Night Football match of the season.

The AFC West game will see the Seahawks top the division if they beat the Rams in Seattle. While the game is important for both sides, Richard Sherman is unhappy with the game taking place so early in the week.

In his weekly column for The Players' Tribune, Sherman has called the idea of Thursday Night Football, "a poopfest".

Sherman, who is one of the most outspoken players in the league has claimed that the NFL are putting the idea of profit, before player safety. The Thursday Night Football concept is relatively modern, with the first non-Thanksgiving games being played in the 2006 season.

"My Seahawks teammates and I are playing in one of the last Thursday night games of the season this week, so we’re one of the last teams to be exploited in 2016. One of the last to be taken advantage of. One of the last to get the middle finger from the NFL."

"But as long as the NFL is using that same finger to count Thursday Night Football dollars, I don’t think it really cares."

Sherman compares the week of a player from playing on a Sunday to Thursday, and claims the bodies have not fully recovered from the previous weekend.

"Your body isn’t ready. You’re still sore from Sunday’s game. You’re going to go out there and compete and give everything you have, because that’s what you do. But your body just won’t have as much to give as it would have had on a full week’s rest."

The 28-year-old has previously played in four Thursday Night Football games, winning three of them. A win against the Rams will guarantee another season in the playoffs for Sherman and the Seahawks.
