Richie Towell looks set to move to Brighton and Hove Albion

The League of Ireland's best player looks like he is moving to The Championship.

Reports this morning state that Dundalk's Richie Towell is about to join Championship high flyers Brighton and Hove Albion. Chris Hughton's side are unbeaten after 12 league games and only goal difference separates them from the top of the table.

Towell scored 25 league goals last season from midfield. He was also part of the Dundalk team that dominated domestic football winning the Premier Division and FAI Cup.

Without mentioning Brighton as a probable destination, Towell told the Irish Independent that he was ready to move back cross channel. "The clubs in for me now are very ambitious sides that are Premier League ready. It's just about trying to sort out the final things. I never rush into anything - I always like to have a look at every angle. Going to League One or League Two was never really an option for me. I want to go to improve my career; prove myself as a player and to be successful."

Speaking to Off the Ball earlier this month, Towell said that his priorities will be changing very soon. "I've a baby now on the way, the baby will be here in a few weeks so there has to be some big decisions made pretty soon. But obviously to come down off the highs of the weekend, it's probably only sinking in now. I have to get back to reality and back to business."

Towell has stated his intention of breaking into the Ireland squad as soon as possible. James McClean left the League of Ireland less than a year before Euro 2012 and made the squad. Maybe Towell can do the same and be on the plane to France next summer.
