Rickie Fowler wins the Honda Classic

Rickie Fowler recorded the fourth PGA Tour victory of his career, after a four-shot victory at the Honda Classic on Sunday night.

The 28-year-old finished on -12, four clear of Morgan Hoffman and Gary Woodland. Fowler started the round, four clear of England's Tyrrell Hatton and never looked in doubt at winning the trophy.

Fowler's win sees him re-enter the World's top-ten. He started the tournament in 14th place, moving up five spots to ninth on the back of the win.

The win is Fowler's first of his career, after leading after 54 holes. Despite a double-bogey and four bogeys, Fowler's round of a +1 71 never saw his lead under threat.

"It's special to be able to pull it off", Fowler said after the win. "It wasn't the prettiest of ways to do it, but this isn't an easy golf course and this wasn't an easy day to go play golf on. Just had to fight through it. Mistakes were going to happen. Bad swings were always going to happen. You can't play a perfect round of golf."

His win, the first since 2015 in America, adds to a stunning run of wins of youngsters on the PGA Tour. Seven of the last eight tournaments have been won by players in their twenties.

Former US Open champion Graeme McDowell was the only Irish player to make the cut. He finished in a tie for 14th place on -4. The result in McDowell's best on the PGA Tour this season.
