Riyad Mahrez scoops PFA Player of the Year award

Riyad Mahrez capped a remarkable season with Leicester City as he was named PFA Player of the Year last night.

The Algerian international has scored 17 goals and notched up 11 assists to help guide Leicester to the top of the Premier League table.

Mahrez scored yesterday during the Foxes' 4-0 win over Swansea to leave them eight points clear of rivals Tottenham with three games to go.

Tottenham face West Brom tonight, knowing only a win that will keep their realistic title aspirations alive.

"All the credit is for them, seriously,” Mahrez said of his teammates. “And my manager and the staff. Without them I wouldn't receive this award and I wouldn't score. It’s the team spirit. I want to dedicate it to them.

"I'm very grateful to receive this award, it’s a pleasure. It’s extra special because, if the players vote for me, it’s because they've seen I've been great this year so I’m happy."

Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli, one of the impressive performers in his first top-flight season, took the Young Player of the Year award.

"Thank you Ossie, the Tottenham legend, for receiving this award for me," Alli said in the video message. "I feel honoured to win such a prestigious award and thank you to my friends, family and all the staff at Tottenham."
