Algeria have failed to advance from the group stages at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Desert Foxes had to beat a Senegal side that had already qualified from Group B.
But a 2-2 draw saw one of the sides expected to go deep into the tournament exit early, with Leicester City duo Riyad Mahrez and Islam Slimani heading back to their club sooner than anticipated.
Slimani had a good night from a personal perspective with two goals.
But the first one was quickly cancelled out by Senegal's Papakouly Diop.
Slimani's second goal came on 52 minutes but just a minute later, Moussa Sow fired in from outside the box.
The draw was enough to secure top spot for Senegal at the top of Group B.
Tunisia join the Lions of Teranga in the quarter finals after beating bottom side Zimbabwe 4-2 thanks to goals from Naim Sliti, Youssef Msakni, Taha Khenissi and Sunderland's Wahbi Khazri.
Senegal take on four time champions Cameroon in the quarter finals and Tunisia will face 2013 runners up Burkina Faso.
Only one other side has definitely qualified for the other quarter finals, with four time winners Ghana having secured their passage out of Group D.
On Tuesday, reigning champions Ivory Coast must beat Morocco tomorrow to make it to the quarter finals from Group C.
The other group match sees DR Congo up against a Togo team propping up the group. DR Congo will advance from the group with a draw.
