Robbie Brady hopes the new generation can take up the mantle left by Robbie Keane

Versatile Ireland midfielder Robbie Brady says he will be happy if he manages just half of the achievements Robbie Keane managed for the country.

Brady, along with Jeff Hendrick and James McClean is part of the generation that will lead the Boys in Green into the next era after long-time captain and record goalscorer Keane ended his international career this week against Oman.

Brady is hoping the new crop can take up the mantle from Keane.

"We've got some fantastic players and if someone else comes to the front and starts, then that would be unbelievable for the team as well," he said.

"If I can touch on anything on Robbie's career, that would be unbelievable."

Brady, who did not move away from Norwich during the transfer window despite expectations after a successful Euro 2016, is a likely starter against Serbia in Ireland's opening 2018 World Cup qualifier in Belgrade.
