The centre was replaced by Ian Madigan in the latter stages of yesterday's game
His availability was in doubt after being stretchered off yesterday and now it has been confirmed that Robbie Henshaw will miss the test series final against South Africa next weekend.
The Ireland centre sustained a knee injury towards the latter stages of the second game yesterday and will return to Ireland for surgery on his knee tonight.
It's understood that he damaged his knee cartilage while trying to tackle Lionel Mapoe.
Robbie Henshaw out of the 3rd test and is to have knee surgery. Huge blow that. #SAvIRE— Paul McIntyre (@PaulMcIntyre14) June 19, 2016
Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt admitted after the game that the subsequent 48 hours would be significant for Henshaw but fresh reports in the Irish Independent, indicate that his tournament is over. It is unlikely that Schmidt will draft in a replacement for Henshaw and will reshuffle the squad to fill the void.
After conceding a 16 point lead to South Africa in the second half yesterday, the series now requires a third game to determine a winner and Henshaw's absence could prove detrimental to Ireland's chances next weekend.
