Robbie Keane primed for "one more adventure" abroad

Ireland record goalscorer Robbie Keane is aiming for one more adventure abroad as a player.

The Tallaght native, who will turn 37 in July, retired from international football last August but has every intention of continuing his club career.

Speaking at Dublin Airport at the launch of Aer Lingus' big North American Sale, the ex-Tottenham, Leeds and Inter Milan striker touched on his future plans, having left Los Angeles Galaxy in 2016.

"I definitely will be playing soon enough," he said, adding that he hadn't taken up any options in the last couple of transfer windows as he "didn't want to go somewhere just for 7, 8, 10 games".

"Definitely the sensible route for me is this month to sit down and look at the options and then make a decision. By no means will I be finished. I'll definitely be playing."

While he has been training with Shamrock Rovers, where ex-Ireland team-mates like Damien Duff and Stephen McPhail are involved in the set-up, Keane will take the next part of his long career abroad.

"It will definitely be abroad. I've got one more adventure left in me for a couple more years and then look to get settled back home in Ireland. But definitely abroad," he said.

On the potential of playing in the League of Ireland, Keane added, "Who's to say in a couple of years [when I] come back to Ireland? I'll definitely be coming back to settle back. Never say never."

He confirmed that he had many offers on the table, including ones with a coaching experience element attached to it.

"I've had options of that," he said.

"It wasn't just right at that moment but I've definitely had offers like that."

Aer Lingus ambassador, Robbie Keane was at Dublin Airport today to launch Aer Lingus’ big North American sale, offering travel enthusiasts €100 off direct, return flights to all U.S. cities and Toronto.

Not long returned from the Californian coast, Robbie shared his top tips when visiting the popular city of LA which is just one of the 11 North American destinations Aer Lingus fly to direct from Ireland. Book your trip stateside by midnight 8th May at aerlingus.com to avail of this special sale offer.
