Ronald Koeman on Ross Barkley's reaction to being dropped for Everton

Everton boss Ronald Koeman says Ross Barkley has responded positively after being dropped from his starting XI.

The midfielder - who has also missed out on England squads in recent times - was an unused substitute for last weekend's 1-1 draw at Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Koeman says Barkley's omission wasn't necessarily down to his form, but hopes it has given him something to think about.

“In my opinion it was the best line up to have the best chance to get a result. His reaction was positive," said Koeman.

"He was okay but disappointed. You need to be disappointed if you don’t start. I changed him and I did not start with him but it can be different this weekend. That is possible, you like to have the best team for the weekend. We will have more ball possession this weekend than we did last week. It is a difficult game, Burnley are strong at home. We will have more ball possession and need more attacking threat so that is a reason to start with one or two more attacking players."
