Ronan Finn returns to Shamrock Rovers

After two seasons at Dundalk, Ronan Finn has completed a shock return to former club Shamrock Rovers.

Finn, who spent three seasons at the team in his first spell, won a League title with the Tallaght-based club, along with two Setanta Cups. He was also named the club's Player of the Year in 2012.

The 28-year-old will be the fourth player to leave Dundalk ahead of the new season. Daryl Horgan and Andy Boyle have joined Championship side Preston North End, while Finn will join Darren Meenan in Tallaght. Meenan committed to the club for the new season, before Dundalk's Europa League elimination.

Rovers revealed the signing on Tuesday in Tallaght Stadium and also confirmed that he will captain the team next season.

"Ronan is one of the best players in the league," said Rovers boss Stephen Bradley. "I'm absolutely delighted to have him here as club captain."

Last season, Dundalk finished 22 points ahead of the Dublin club. In Finn's first season at Oriel Park, there was a 13-point difference between the sides.

Finn's final game for Dundalk came earlier this month, when the team lost 2-1 to Macabbi Tel Aviv, in Netanya. He started all six of the side's Europa League matches.

Dundalk have made one new signing (Sean Hoare) as they look to win the Premier Division in 2017, for a fourth time in a row. Finn will be Shamrock Rovers' eighth new signing ahead of the new campaign, in what has been a fruitful off-season for Stephen Bradley's side.
