Ronda Rousey could return for title bout before the end of the year

Ronda Rousey's impressive reign as bantamweight champion was ended by Holly Holm at UFC 193 in November of 2015.

Up to that point, Rousey had seemed nearly invincible, dominating the division and finishing the majority of her fights in the first round.

However, since that defeat, she has yet to step foot back in the octagon, and admitted that she had a very difficult time dealing with the loss.

In an emotional appearance on The Ellen Show, Rousey said: "I was sitting in the corner and I was like 'what am I anymore if I’m not this'. And I was literally sitting there and like thinking about killing myself and at that exact second I’m like, ‘I’m nothing, what do I do anymore and no one gives a shit about me anymore without this'."

Her hiatus may be coming to an end however, as her trainer Edmond Tarverdyan told ESPN that she has been in training for a month at this stage, and she could be back in action before the end of the year.

"There's a chance she fights to get her belt back this year, but nothing is set yet," explained Tarverdyan. "If we do make a comeback this year, we will. If not we will make it next year. We want to thank all our fans for being patient."

"When she does come back, we promise the best Ronda Rousey that anyone has ever seen," he added.

Speaking earlier this week, UFC President Dana White said that there was a still a possibility of having Rousey fight Cris 'Cyborg' Justino, but that the most likely course of action for the Olympic bronze medal winner would be to take on a title shot first and foremost.

"I’m sure [Rousey is] going to want to fight for the title," White told Brazil's O Globo, "probably defend it and then maybe fight Cyborg. I don’t know. We’ll see how this thing plays out."

That title has already changed hands a number of times since Rousey was defeated by Holm last year, who in turn lost in her first defence to Miesha Tate. Tate didn't hold on to it for too long either, losing to Amanda Nunes, who would be the one to face Rousey if the fight takes place.

With the card for UFC 205 in November already taking shape, it appears that the most likely fight will be UFC 207 at the end of December.
