Former World Champion Ronnie O'Sullivan has progressed to the quarter-finals of the World Championships in Sheffield after beating Shaun Murphy 13-7 at the Crucible.

O'Sullivan needed only three frames on Saturday after holding a 10-6 lead overnight. He now progresses to the last eight for the 18th time in his career.

Speaking to the BBC afterwards, the victorious Englishman said: "I have practised for this tournament - given it six to seven weeks - but it does not necessarily mean you are going to play well. I have put my work in and hope to get stronger each match. I don't pay attention to what anybody says.

"I come here, get into my own cocoon, and do what I have to do. It is a long slog, hard mentally, especially for me but you just have to try your best."

O'Sullivan will now progress to face either Ding Junhui or Liang Wenbo.
