Rory McIlroy and Conor McGregor make it onto Forbes Top 100 Highest Paid for 2016

Conor McGregor has made it onto the list of highest paid athletes in 2016.

Forbes have published their Top 100 which is topped by Real Madrid and Portugal footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, who earned $88 million (€77.68 million).

He is ahead of Barcelona's Lionel Messi, who earned €71.85 million, just ahead of third placed NBA star LeBron James (€68.15 million).

Rory McIlroy is the highest ranked Irishman on the list at No 17, with the four-time major winning golfer earning €37.6 million.

McGregor makes the Top 100 for the first time, having earned $22 million (€19.4 million) which is split between endorsements of $4 million and salary/winnings of $18 million.

The only MMA fighter on the list, he is at No 85.
