Rory McIlroy gearing up for Augusta

Rory McIlroy is determined to put his poor showing at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play behind him and focus on completing a career Grand Slam at the US Masters.

The Northern Irishman lost to Soren Kjeldsen 2&1 in his first match and was eliminated after Gary Woodland withdrew from the tournament. Kjeldsen won his second match agains Emiliano Grillo to give him an uinsurmountable lead in the group.

Speaking afterwards he said: "Every time I’ve played this year, I’ve played well. I did OK in Mexico. I did pretty well at Bay Hill, I had a chance to win. I think I was seven under for the two rounds I played here this week. I played pretty well."

McIlroy recently recovered from a rib injury sustained in January and hasn't played as much competitive golf as he would have expected heading to Augusta saying: "Since coming back from the injury I’ve played 10 competitive rounds. Right now I can’t see a downside to not having played as much as I planned to. I feel really healthy.

"I don’t feel any issue with my health. And freshness could help, especially mentally. Mentally going in there and not being drained is a good thing as well,” he added.

The US Masters takes place from 6th-9th April.
