Rory McIlroy plays a round with Donald Trump

Rory McIlroy has begun preparations for his comeback to competitive golf, by playing a round of golf with US President Donald Trump.

The World number three is currently out of action, as he recovers from a stress fracture to his ribs. He plans to return to action next month at the WGC-Mexico Championship.

McIlroy played with President Trump, as the 70-year-old took the golf course for the third weekend in a row of his presidency.

Speaking to No Laying Up, McIlroy admitted he only got asked to play with Mr. Trump hours before the teed off. The Hollywood native added that Trump "probably shot around 80. He’s a decent player for a guy in his 70’s!"

It is not the first time the pair have met. McIlroy regularly played at Doral, a course Trump owns, in the WGC-Cadillac Championship. That tournament has now moved to Mexico.

McIlroy played in a four-ball with Trump, Kildare-born Nick Mullen (an agent with ISM), and Trump's friend Rich Levine.

Will the preparation help McIlroy try and claim that elusive green jacket in The Masters in April?
