Rory McIlroy signs new deal with TaylorMade

Rory McIlroy has finally revealed what clubs he will be using in his bag for the near future.

The World number two signed an exclusive deal with Nike in 2013, in an initial five-year deal. The deal included the usage of Nike golf balls, clubs and clothes.

Last August, Nike announced they were to leave the apparel business, forcing the likes of McIlroy into looking for a new deal to have his golf balls and clubs supplied.

He signed a new deal with Nike worth at least a nine-figure amount in April for ten years. That deal will only supply clothes to the Northern Ireland golfer.

On Tuesday afternoon, he announced that TaylorMade were to supply golf clubs and balls. The deal with the Adidas-owned company is also worth another nine-figure amount.

"I needed to address a few issues after Augusta", McIlroy revealed, as he went through his thoughts of changing clubs.

"I alluded to the fact that I wasn't really happy with the golf ball I was playing and I needed to do something. I felt like I struggled in the wind. So I sort of went back to the drawing board and tested for about ten days pretty extensively after Augusta, worked with a lot of different things."

"I worked with the TaylorMade guys one day and started just on TrackMan on the range and saw stuff with the golf ball, that new TP5x ball that they have, and I thought, wow, this is what I need, this is exactly the thing that I've been struggling with, and this is, I feel, is what I need."

"Over the over the course of the next few days, I tested different combinations, a lot of different stuff, and I came to the conclusion that that was the best way forward for me to try and improve, try and win more, try to get back to world No. 1, try to win more Majors. So I'm really excited about that."

"It's very rare that you get really excited about your equipment", he concluded. "I feel like it's a new chapter in my life with a lot of stuff going on, but I really feel with the new equipment, as well, it's hopefully going to take me to that next level."

McIlroy returns to action this week for the first time since his top-ten finish at The Masters. He is paired with Dustin Johnson and Justin Thomas for the opening two rounds.
