Rory McIlroy earned himself a $10million bonus on Sunday night after a dramatic win at the Tour Championship in Atlanta. The win ensured McIlroy won the FedEx Cup for the first time in his career.
McIlroy went into the tournament knowing he had to win the tournament and hope US Open champion Dustin Johnson finished in a tie for second or worse to win the bonus.
Ahead of the final round, Johnson began as joint-leader with Kevin Chappell on -8. McIlroy started two-shots back on -6. Johnson ended up shooting a +3 round of 73, the worst of the day, to finish in a tie for sixth place.
McIlroy only dropped one shot in his final round, but made his important move on the 16th, when he pitched in for an eagle.

The Hollywood native finished on -12, but saw Ryan Moore miss a chance to win the tournament on the 18th, to send the tournament to sudden-death with McIlroy and Chappell. A win for McIlroy would have also won him the FedEx Cup, with Johnson would have pocketed the $10million jackpot with a Chappell of Moore win.
After Chappell was eliminated on the first hole, and McIlroy had a putt to win, it eventually took a further three holes for the 27-year-old to beat Moore.
The win came on the 16th hole, when McIlroy's birdie on the par-4 proved to be enough.

It is the first time McIlroy has won the season-ending playoffs. He becomes only the second European to win both the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup and the first since Henrik Stenson in 2013.
