Rory Mcllroy "was like the Incredible Hulk" at the Ryder Cup

It's fair to say that the 2016 Ryder Cup was "a fist-pump festival" as golf writer Lawrence Donegan told Off The Ball.

McIlroy and many of the players on both sides a Hazeltine were quite animated especially when it came to their interactions with the US crowd, some of whom gave Team Europe an earful.

As McIlroy put it ahead of the final day, some of it went too far.

But as he added of the heckling: "It fuelled me a lot. The more they shouted, the better we played, so I hope they shout at us all day on Sunday."

Donegan joined Off The Ball tonight to look back at this year's tournament and touched on the visible shows of emotion.

"Ah yeah, it was a fist-pump festival," he said, before touching on the McIlroy.

"He was like the Incredible Hulk or something. But it was really good stuff, great golf, great event."

Donegan echoed McIlroy's point that the intensity of the away crowd played actually played in his favour.

"He's got that habit of drifting in and out, especially when it's not going quite all his way. He did well. I think he was one of the real successes of the European team. McIlroy was like the beating heart of the whole team really - not a replacement for Poulter, more of an upgrade really in terms of golf. I mean, Poulter's a great competitor and all that but you don't win four major titles without being a great competitor."
